What is "Matted and Framed"?

Matting is a paperboard material, black or grey in color. A rectangle with a beveled edge is cut from it's center, then a photograph to be viewed is taped to the back of the board behind the opening. The matting is a visual tool that focuses attention toward the photographic image by increasing the overall size of the piece and seperating the photo from other surrounding detail. The framing we offer is a commercial grade black metal frame. The frame protects the edges of the matting, provides rigidity that prevents the work from bowing when hung, and acts as a holder for an optional piece of protective plexiglass when necessary.
