About this web site

The Internet contains a wealth of information on the various aspects of furniture, including industry, history and design. At the time I started this web site in July 1996, there did not exist any centralized location that coordinated the many available resources. My own interest in furniture inspired me to take on the task of gathering together and organizing existing web pages, as well as adding pages of information that I thought would be useful to others, whether furniture manufacturers, retailers, designers, collectors or historians.

About the author
After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Spanish and French Language and Literature from Michigan State University in 1986, I received a master's degree in Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan in 1989. My first professional position was at the Library of Michigan, where I developed an increased interest in history, particularly family history. I became an avid genealogist, and my enthusiasm has yet to abate.

My appreciation for furniture came about as a result of my work at the Grand Rapids Public Library, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Between 1992 and March 2000, I was the librarian in charge of the Furniture Design Collection, one of the world's finest collections of materials on furniture design.

Please direct any questions you may have about Michigan furniture to the staff of the History and Special Collections Department of the Grand Rapids Public Library.
