Now I leave thee dearest mother,

And my home I leave also:

But tis Jesus bids me, calls me.

Shall I falter when I know

That the path though rough and thorny,

Smoother is than Jesus trod?

I a weak and sinful mortal;

He a just and holy God.

But if Jesus gives me courage,

I can do all He requires.

And He will I doubt not mother,

Bend the gold He ever tries.

Pray then for me dearest mother;

Strengthen by your prayers, your child;

That she may in all her pathway,

Be preserved from Satan’s wiles.

Oh! Take her but be faithful still,

And May the Bridal vow

Be sacred held in after years,

And warmly breathed as now.

Remember tis no common tie

That binds her youthful heart:

Tis one that only truth should move,

And only falsehood part.

II

Her lot in life is fixed with thine,

In good and ill to share

And well I know twill be her pride,

To soothe each sorrow there.

Then take her and may fleeting time

Mark only Joy’s increase,

And may your days glide calmly on

In happiness and peace.
