Spears

We now have proof that Jared Rollins Spears mother Louisa Maria Green (her poems) was Jared Green Jr.'s daughter. In a deed for the farm in Crawford County, Meadville, PA of Jared Green it mentions Milton and Louisa M. Spear.

From Sally Washburn we have the generations back to Francis Cooke of the Mayflower. I can give anyone the information if they wish.

From Jared Green Jr. we can go back to Thomas Green (b.1606 in Leichestershire, England). I can also give any of this information to anyone who wishes.

The newest information that I have is Milton Rathbun Spears' family ( Louisa's husband). I just got this information. It follows the Rathbun side of the family back to William Rathbun (born in 1538). Three of these generations were in England.

Coon

I also have a picture of Mary May Coon that was sent to me by Sue Churchill. I have the names of her parents as Helen May Brown (born in Canada on12 Aug 1838) and William Coon (born in NY in 1824), on the death certificate for Helen May Brown it has her father as Elias. This is because William died in 1861 and Elias raised one of Mary’s daughters, Millie. William died young and in those days the older brother had the responsibility of raising the children. After William dies, Helen married William Legacy in 1864 (b. 12 Sept 1837 d. 7 Dec 1929 in East Tawas, MI). William was a GAR veteran and was well known in the East Tawas area. I have several articles about him and his activities with the veteran’s society.  I do not know what happened to Winnie M Coon. There is no information about her upbringing. Mary May stayed with her mother and moved to East Tawas. Her parents moved to Port Austin, MI until there deaths. Helen May’s parents were David Brown (b. 1 May 1811 in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, Canada, d 9 Aug 1893 in Port Austin, MI. Her mother was Nancy Peterson (14 Dec 1810 in Ontario, Canada, d. 20 Jan 1885 in Port Austin, MI. There are accounts of Helen May and her brothers who lived in East Tawas going to visit them in Port Austin, MI. I have found the Brown family in the 1850 census in the town of Orleans, Jefferson County, NY page 69 that lists their children as; Sylvester, Albert, John, Helen and Prisilla. According to newspaper events in East Tawas John, George and Wallace all lived in East Tawas at the time of their father’s (David) death. My mother remembers a connection to the name of Legacy with Mary. My mother also remembers that Mary grew up in Tawas, MI but was born in Jefferson County NY.

William Coon’s father was George Washington Coon (b. 19 May 1788 in Hopkinton Washington, RI, d. 4 Sep 1872 in Jefferson County, NY) and his mother was Nancy Britton (b. 8 Dec 1798 in Westmoreland, Cheshire, NH, d. 12 Feb 1864 in Orleans, Jefferson county, NY) They were married on 31 Dec 1815. I have found on the LDS site a tree that goes back to about 500AD. William and Nancy’s children were: Elias (1817-1894), Diadema (1821-1897), William (1824-1861), George W (1826- ), Lucinda (1828-1895), Abbie (1830-1901), Mary (1832- ), Phoebe (1835- ), and Isabel (1835- ).

Millie, the daughter raised by William, married Lewis Landon. Mary and Millie did not see each other for 30 years. Then Millie and her family moved to the South Saginaw area and they met. Millie and Mary had Floyd, Earl, William. Earl had some problems according to the Iosco County Gazette by stealing William Legacy’s pension money and then later forged some checks at a Birch Run bank. Floyd had some time as a member of the Wilbur Entertainment Company and traveled about Michigan entertaining.
