We moved from Michigan to Salt Lake City in the Spring of 2000.  Kent had accepted a new position with Liquitek Enterprises, Inc. of Draper, Utah and served as the president of two subsidiaries of the company.  Unfortunately, however, the anticipated funding for the company did not materialize and so one subsidiary had to be sold and the other returned to its former owners.

As things turned out, though, a major development effort had just been completed for the GearMaster and Kent is now devoting his full time to bringing the GearMaster to market.  For further details on this neat new device, please visit www.gearmaster.com

We finally sold our house in Michigan and, after a little more than a year in an apartment in Draper, Utah, we found a new place in Eagle Mountain, about 25 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.  We have a 5 1/2 acre ranchette and enjoy the feeling of being out in the country again. With our very dry climate and desert environment, we miss the lush vegetation of Michigan, but feel compensated by spectacular views of mountains in every direction. Of course, we hope to keep up with all our friends from Michigan and elsewhere.  Please give us a call, an email, a fax or write us as shown above.  Better yet, come see us.  We'd love to show you around.

Some details on the family:

MOM AND DAD

  • Kent
    • Work:  See note above.  We sold the machining operations of Johnson Manufacturing Company in 1995  but we are keeping the corporate entity for other things like the GearMaster (see "Gearmaster" and "Tinkering" below).

Following the sale of Johnson, Kent served for five years as Vice President at Success Financial Group in Grandville, Michigan as a seminar instructor and financial planner.  He also continues his efforts with:

      • The Gearmaster - an electronic instrument for the heavy trucking industry.  The patent was finally issued and Kent and his partner are working on bringing the unit to market. Click here for some background and then go directly to our new Gearmaster website at: www.gearmaster.com.

    • Church:   Released in October 1995 after 9 years as stake president. Then 5 + years as counselor to the full time mission president in the Michigan Lansing Mission and Stake Young Single Adult Advisor (with Keena).  In Utah, teaching Gospel Doctrine and Teacher Development classes.  Serve with Keena as Stake Welfare Specialists.

    • Hobbies:
      - Singing (Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus; Chamber Choir of Grand Rapids.   October  1997 sang in the core chorus of a massive production of Aida - live elephants, horses, tiger and all.   June 1999 - sang with the Chamber Choir in a concert tour of Russia, Finland and Estonia, a great experience).
      - Flying (I still keep up my Flight Instructor and Instrument ratings, but click here to see a new way to get in the air and what I'm doing with it:   Powered Paragliding and Powered Parachuting (Price Aero Services)
      - Tinkering (my second patent was issued in August, 1999 - see Gearmaster).

  • Keena
    • Work:  Left the Red Cross after eight years and then worked as an R.N. in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in Michigan and Utah.  With our move to Eagle Mountain, the commute just went from 5 minutes to 25 minutes but the work is enjoyable.
    • Church:  In Michigan, early morning seminary teacher, Young Single Adult Advisor (with Kent). In Utah, teaching Relief Socitety.  Also, with Kent, Stake Welfare Specialist.

    • Other: Singing in choir at church.  Trying to keep fit with Yoga exercises and running every morning..  Pursuing the lost cause of getting Kent to join in on Yoga.

THE KIDS

  • Kristina and Karl Shurts are now in the Portland, Oregon area.  Karl got his MBA from the University of Texas in May of 97 and now works for Intel.  They have five children: Ben, Michaela & Kiana (twins), Dallin, and Kandra. They are building their dream house on 10 acres out in the country and should move in in the spring of 2004.  We just wish that they were closer!

  • Krey married Lindy Dory in November of 1997 after getting his masters degree in Civil Engineering at Berkeley.  They now have three children, Jaedin, Cambren and Addisson. They live in Troutdale, near Portland, Oregon where Krey works for the engineering firm of Tetra Tech.

Jaedin was born in December of 1998 with a serious heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).  He has been through four open heart surgeries and we are now hoping for a fairly normal life.  We are so grateful for the recent advances in medicine that have allowed him to live. For a lot more information on Jaedin and HLHS, see Krey & Lindy's home page.

  • Kamber married Jared Turner on March 24, 2001.  She finished her mission in Germany in December 1996 and returned to BYU to graduate with a degree in math and physics in April of 1998.  She continued on for a master's degree in horn performance and music pedagogy in the spring of 2000 and moved to Portland, Oregon where she taught high school for a year and met Jared.  They moved back to Provo where David Kimball Turner was born in 2002.  Jared is finishing his degree in Construction Management at BYU and has accepted a position in Tucson, Arizona.

  • Kerrie became Mrs. Neal Davis on December 27, 1997.  Neal and Kerrie graduated together from BYU in 1999, she in dietetics and he in pre-med. Neal then graduated from the University of Utah Medical School in June of 2003.  They are now in Iowa City, Iowa where Neal is in a four year residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa Hospital.  They have three sons, Roy Kenton, born in April, 1999, Paul Merrill, born in August, 2001 and Joseph Hampton, born in September, 2003.

  • Kevin returned from his mission in the Hungary Budapest Mission in July 2001, and is now at BYU working on a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He keeps up his musical talents playing trombone in the marching band, pep band and singing in an A Cappella sextet. He kept telling us that he planed to stay single for at least three years after completing his mission.  He just might make it, much to his sisters' dismay.
