Now I know most fish stories start out, this is no sh*t. But this is no sh*t. I caught this fish the first week we spent at Three Fall Lodge on the Au Sable River east of Grayling Michigan. I rolled this fish on Sunday or Monday when we first got there and thought about it the rest of the week. After rolling him, I would work my way up to his hole where he lived hoping to put the steel to him without any success. On Thursday morning, our last full day at the lodge. I got up early hoping to have one more chance at this beauty, and when I got into the river there were a couple of fishermen working their way downstream, when one hollered out that he had just missed this huge fish. When I looked upstream I saw that this fishermen was standing in front of my fish's hole. My heart sank. I thought, "there goes my last chance". After they passed I decided I had nothing to loose so I worked my way into position, and cast, the woolybugger landed perfectly, and he charged it and struck. I couldn't believe it when I brought this fish safely to the net. It was ~ 18-20" in length, and was released right in front of Three Falls. We've been back two more times, and I haven't seen him since.
