The Lake Michigan Outing was started in 2003 by a group of avid Lake Michigan fishermen who wanted to create a "fun" outing to promote camaraderie and give people who might not normally fish "The Big Pond" an opportunity to do so. The first outing was held at Port Washington, the second at Sheboygan, the third was Manitowoc and last year it was held in Two Rivers. Last year we had 14 boats participating!

While there may be some modest prizes for boat catch winners and heaviest fish, I want to emphasize that the spirit of this outing is the have fun and introduce new people to the sport of big lake fishing. We want to keep the competition fair and friendly, not have a crew full of "ringers" winning everything. That being said, active Great Lakes charter captains are welcome to participate, however they are ineligible for any the boat catch or big fish prizes.

Last year some boats also had some young people in their crews from the United Special Sportsman Alliance, Inc. [USSA].  The USSA is a 501-C3 Non-profit "dream wish" granting charity, that specializes in sending critically ill and disabled youth on the outdoor adventure of their dreams!   Please see the USSA area for more information on this opportunity.
