Don's CDDon Johnson "Ship of Dreams"

Listen to "Ship of Dreams" and "Slippin Through the Shadows" online at www.don-johnson.tv.

My son lives in the Philadelphia suburbs with his family. One of his interests is music. For many years he has played guitar and in the spring and summer of 1998 he recorded 10 of his songs with a goup of very experienced musicians. You'll find country flavored rock and blues on the CD and some terrific violin solos. The inspiration behind the CD was to capture some of the songs he has written over the years and to create an example for his children of what can happen when you follow your dreams.

In 2001 he recorded a second CD of songs that he wrote with some new musicians, coming up with a more innovative rock, latin and blues sound. Several songs are available for listening at the web site listed above. One other note: He narrowly missed being at the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attack. His company was having a meeting there on September 11-12 in a hotel in the plaza next to the towers. Don was scheduled to be there on September 12th. He traveled to New York a week later, visited the site and absorbed the atmosphere in the city at that time. As a result he wrote a song, "I Am Not the Same" which is posted on the website.

Golfing: I was a member of The Moors Golf Club, Portage, Michigan from 1979 until 2001, and also a previous member of The Kalamazoo Country Club and Lake Doster Golf Club. Unfortunately a shoulder problem has ended my golfing days.

Golf Club Repair: It all started when a very fine persimmon wood of mine was ruined by a local refinisher. Now, I enjoy sharing my at home hobby, refinishing and repair, with Milham Park Golf Course, other golf clubs and individuals.

Philately: I became interested in collecting stamps when I was about 10 years old. My father, who worked for The Fifth Avenue Bank, NYC (it is now The Bank of New York) would bring home stamps from around the world. Recently, a neighbor and golfing buddy renewed my interest and now I am resurrecting and adding to the collection-hopefully to pass on to the grandchildren. My modest collection is mostly US mint and used stamps, First Day Covers and a wide variety of used foreign. I also have a handwritten letter from Rodolph Valentino, dated May 17, 1922 and note to my father from Eleanor Roosevelt.

Travel: Traveled for 17 years while working for the Upjohn Company and now it is rather limited. The wild and woolly west (Cody, Wyoming) holds a certain appeal. San Francisco was and is my favorite city.

Reading: History, biographies, World War II, and novels of intrigue.

Swedish and Swedes: In 2000 I began studying Swedish at Kalamazoo College. This was the result of finding an unknown, distant relative on the Internet (an interesting story) from the town where my grandfather was born. I visited them in Halmstad, Sweden in 2001. Since they speak very little English we correspond almost daily in Swedish and I continue to study the language.
