Worthy Brother Knights, Wives and Families Vivat Jesus!

From the Desk of the Grand Knight:

From Your Grand Knight Vivat Jesus Brother Knights, Wives, Families and Clergy

Last months meeting was cancelled due to bad weather. At this months meeting we will be discussing sending delegates to the State Convention. With the arrival of March, our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner with Ann Lines and her family doing all the work. Mark your calendars for March 21st and get your tickets early. It’s the best corned beef anywhere.  Joe Vance called me with an idea for raising money for the hall, he wants to have BBQ chicken dinners at the hall on the first Sunday of every month; Our first one will be in April. Please support our Council. Please keep Ed Rollins in your prayers. Ed and Dorothy were married for 73 years. His soul mate left for a better place.

Signed:

Grand Knight: Don Zamborowski - 810-794-4320 or cell 810-531-2500

Deputy Grand Knight:

As most of you know, I have been home on the mend and I am grateful that I am getter better. There have been little setbacks here and there, but I have learned to take things day by day. Again, I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, phone calls, visits and cards. They mean so much.
Don and I keep in touch, and he keep’s me in the loop on events and such as much as he can. I cannot wait for the weather to get warmer and I’ll be more able to get back into the swing of things. I am sorry to have missed the January meeting (couldn’t be helped), and the February meeting was canceled (because of the snowy weather), so there are lots of things I need to get catch up on since I’ve been away.
I want to thank Brother Jim Alexie for all his help. Jim stepped up to the plate, helping out with the paperwork and making telephone calls when I could not. Jim was a real life-saver, and a dedicated Brother Knight. Thank You Jim!
As we head into March, I find that the new “Knight Year” is just a few months away, there are so many good things that we can look back on that we accomplished this past year. What worked and didn’t work, and reflect on what we can do to make our council even better for the upcoming year.
We are acutely aware that we need all our Knights and their families to be more involved, and the need to grow in our membership. We have a wealth of experience, and we need that experience at our meetings. I will try to be like a sponge, and soak up some of that experience (but these guys need to attend the meetings), and learn from those members who are still here, who founded this council, and possibly have the most experience in the council.
Our GK Don mentioned in our last newsletter that we need to do some kind of social event at the hall. Think about it, we have our meetings and our fundraisers and such, but really nothing that we get together for and just relax. How about playing Cards? There has to be sports fans, pool players, and championship games to watch. These are some things to think about, please bring your ideas to the next meeting.
Hope to see you soon. May God bless you and your family!

Deputy Grand Knight: Ted Hendrick (H)794-7886 e-mail: sage lake7@ N Yahoo.com

Financial Secretary:

Dear brother knights, we still have eight (8) members who have not yet paid their dues for 2010. Unfortunately, and very shortly, I will be forced to send out the Knight Alert letter followed by a phone call to these delinquent members from the retention committee. We are living in some very trying economic times so if, for any financial reason, you cannot pay your dues, please contact the Grand Knight or me immediately so we can make other arrangements with you.
The call roster and address list have been manually updated. Feel free to make a copy for yourself from the lists located on the wall in the GK’s office, however do not remove these lists from the office.

Financial Secretary, Frank Fakult 7330 Flamingo, Clay, MI. 48001- 794-7451

Pro-Life Director:

The government continues to do reckless spending with stimulus dollars, here is just a few examples:
Dinner Cruise company gets terrorism prevention money------$943,190
Study of wild flowers in a ghost town-----------------------------$448,995
Buying Fish Food-----------------------------------------------------$50 mil
Studying the work habits of Arizona ants--------------------------$950,000
Fossil Research …in Argentina--------------------------------------41.7 mil

The following list involves human babies:

The President’s lifted a ban on taxpayer-funded abortion by overturning the Mexico City Policy, which authorizes U.S. tax dollars to go overseas to promote and perform abortions.

Also by executive order, taxpayer-funding of human experimentation via embryonic stem cell research, with the topic of human cloning reopened for discussion.

The 2010 Omnibus Bill was signed into law authorizing public funding of elective abortions in our nation’s capital. This bill also appropriates over 648 million of our tax dollars for international family planning which promotes and provides abortion-on-demand. These funds are administered by Planned Parenthood.

$55 millions have been awarded to the United Nations Population Fund, an organization which as collaborated with the Chinese government in performing forced abortions and forced sterilizations to carry out that country’s “one child Policy”.

Disturbing as the above mentioned items are, this is the reason why we must continue to fight for a culture of life.

Jackie and I will be attending the blue Water Pregnancy Care Center Annual Banquet on March 11, 2010. We pray that the council will approve a generous donation to their fundraiser. This organization has been responsible for saving many babies, through their counseling services.

Good news from the Family Research Council, RICK SANTORUM,
Former Senator, has joined the FRC Action Team. Santorum, author of “It takes a Family: Conservatism, and the Common Good“, was an FRC Action ally in the Senate, helping pass legislation such as the Defense of Marriage Act and the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act.

Prayer continues to be the best thing to do, to fight tax-funded abortions and health care rationing that would hurt the weakest members of our society, plus increase taxes, reduced quality, and diminished liberty. Each day we should lift up our prayers to the Lord.

THE NICEST THING ABOUT THE FUTURE IS THAT IT ALWAYS STARTS TOMORROW.

Insurance:

Membership Growth is everyone's goal

The membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to increase their numbers. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder’s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights are more visible than normal, during and after Masses and at special events. We remember to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, community and Order.

At the beginning of the fraternal year, we set our eyes on the goal of achieving the Star Council Award. This means running many successful and varied programs throughout the year and using this activity to spread the word about the Order. This will bring in new members.

Don’t forget the strength of our life insurance, long-term care and annuities products is also a selling point of membership. For more than 125 years, our insurance has been “making a difference for life.” Our ratings are among the best in the business. For the 16th consecutive year, the Knights of Columbus insurance program has earned Standard & Poor’s highest rating, and for the 33rd consecutive year, A.M. Best Company has given us its highest financial strength rating.

I can help not only in explaining to prospects our outstanding insurance products, but also on the many other benefits of becoming a knight.  I am happy to be an advocate for the Order and for our council. Even better, I can help you feel more comfortable in making the membership “sale” to prospects yourself.

As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity.

     Call me – let’s talk.

Call me - let's talk.

Sincerely:

A Job Well Done

During this past December, a young Algonac couple suffered a terrible loss, their baby son died.  In the aftermath of this tragedy, family and friends came together to console and help one another.

A fund raiser was proposed to help with expenses with the untimely demise of the child, and on the evening of January 2nd, the Algonac Knights of Columbus donated the use of their hall for a fund raiser for this purpose.

It was a successful event, a Spaghetti dinner and raffle raised $1500.00 to help with the funeral expenses for this family.

Many expressed their thanks to the Algonac K of C, and left that evening with a better appreciation of what the Knights of Columbus does for the community.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED

If you are doing something in the hall and you find that the dumpster is full,  would you please go to the phone in the kitchen, and right above the phone, is a number to call for a pickup of the dumpster.  Tell the company that the dumpster is full and a pick up is needed.  It is very important that everyone report a full dumpster at the time it is discovered, we cannot store trash from events and functions in the hall while we wait for it to be available.

The only time that they come out is if someone gives them a call - please help and do your share.

Article Deadline:

Well the new year has arrived and one month has already gone by. See what happens when we are all so busy you wonder where the days go.

Just a few reminders: Call Jim Alexie or email him with your email address so that we can get information to you a lot faster.

I am still trying to send the newsletter to you by email if you want it. I know some would rather get it through the mail. I have some address but not sure if they are correct.

Do not forget that if you have something to say, sell, donate to let me know and I will add it to the newsletter.

On February 3rd, I am going in for some knee surgery. Arthroscopic on the right knee. I will be laid up, but not for long.

Sincerely:

Ann Lines, Publisher.
