 What is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)?

What should I know about Iserv Digital Voice E911* service?

  • Feel secure in the event of an emergency.  E911, or Enhanced 911, works the same way as typical 911 service, but also provides the benefit of automatically transmitting your telephone number and location to the emergency dispatcher.

 *restrictions and requirements apply – service does not function in the absence of electrical power, services will not function if there is an interruption of broadband or high-speed Internet access service, end user must notify E911 services if address or location of phone service user changes at any time.

Is the sound quality clear with Iserv Digital Voice service?

  • You bet!  Our digital communications network transmits a “clean” signal with less noise and distortion than many analog networks. 
 Does Iserv Digital Voice offer Lifeline services to customers?
  • No.  Iserv Digital Voice does not support Lifeline services at this time.  We may support this in future releases.

Do I have to keep my Internet cable modem turned on for my Iserv Digital Voice service to work?

  • Yes, your Internet service needs to be on in order to utilize your Iserv Digital Voice phone service.
Do I have to keep my DSL modem turned on for my Iserv Digital Voice service to work?
  • Yes, your Internet service needs to be on in order to utilize your Iserv Digital Voice phone service.

Compatibility

Can I use other Iserv services while using Iserv Digital Voice service?

  • Of course!  Thanks to the power of broadband technology, Iserv can provide a whole range of products without interfering with web surfing or other services.
What if my electricity goes out?  Will I still be able to use my Iserv Digital Voice service?
  • Iserv recommends the use of a battery backup to ensure that phone service is not interrupted.  If the electricity goes out or your Internet access is interrupted for any reason you will not be able to access your Digital Voice phone service until power or access is restored.
 Does Iserv Digital Voice service permit dial-up Internet service?
  • Iserv Digital Voice service requires a high-speed Internet connection in order to perform at optimum service levels.
  • Iserv offers High-Speed Internet service that eliminates the need to use dial-up service and gives you access to the Internet at speeds up to 100 times faster than dial-up.  Contact Customer Support at 888.64.ISERV (47378) to learn more about Iserv High-Speed Internet and the great savings you can get when you bundle it with Iserv Digital Voice.
 If my Internet goes out will my Digital Voice stop working?
  • If the electricity goes out or your Internet access is interrupted for any reason you will not be able to access your Digital Voice phone service until power or access is restored.
