| IGE is planning to continue with activities we started with Grand Rapids’ first “SpankOut” observance in May 2008. We’re looking at something more positive, such as “Parenting for Peace”, rather than continue to name what we want to avoid (corporal punishment, including spanking). We want to focus on the connections between peaceful parenting and a peaceful community and world. We also want to continue to advocate as well as bring groups together so we can have a stronger voice and offer a greater variety of passion and expertise. We are asking others to look at the particular strengths/interests of themselves and their organizations and how they can collaborate with us on this overall education/advocacy effort. We have started a file at IGE based on what we have done so far in this area. We are exploring the possibility of having a speaker in November who would talk about corporal punishment and the law, with an emphasis on international law. We need more interested people to join our planning committee! Bring your ideas. At IGE, your ideas have a good chance of getting the institutional support that can see them implemented, and make a difference! |
